(1942-43) and England, France and Belgium (1944-45). Includes Kendall's pay record, veteran's eligibility papers and pocket notebook; issues of various Stars and Stripes newspapers (1945) and one issue of the YANKEE BOOMER newspaper (Sept. 30, 1945); press release from Supreme Allied Headquarters (Jan. 4, 1945) on operations of 9th Armored Division. Clipping on George Kendall Wilkins (Mexican War).

Kendall, Geo. Wilkins (George Wilkins), 1809-1867

George Wilkins Kendall settled in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1835. In 1837, he and Francis A. Lumsden established the Times-Picayune, a New Orleans newspaper. Kendall participated in the Texan Santa Fé Expedition in 1841 and was subsequently held prisoner in Mexico. During the Mexican War he accompanied United States forces under Zachary Taylor and Winfield Scott, reporting war news for the Times-Picayune.
